What is WellPower?

 

Self-defense can be a lifestyle choice. What do we mean by that? We're talking about giving your body and mind the best possible chance to be strong and ready for whatever you wish to accomplish, and for whatever comes your way, whether it's a virus going around, or a potential predator. Your well-being is going to decide your readiness, and we help our clients amp up their defenses on multiple fronts.

Health Coaching, Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD), and Personal Training are the foundational practices we provide to support your most empowered, healthy, and joyful life. We work with individual coaching & training clients, and we team-teach self-defense to individuals and groups as large as 20 at a time.

We are Chicago-based, but we coach clients in any time zone, and our ESD workshops are designed for easy travel. Scroll for more info on the three pillars of our work.

Health Coaching

What exactly is health coaching? In a nutshell, coaches provide both safe space to think through ideas and emotions, as well as constructive challenges to move out of a place of feeling "stuck". You could say we act as your habit-change trail guides. Show us where you want to go and we’ll work alongside you to create an individual plan that takes your unique life’s challenges and obstacles into consideration, providing the structure and accountability to make success inevitable. Healthy habits are a form of self-defense: aging is inevitable, but illness is not!

Empowerment Self-Defense

ESD isn't about being a highly-skilled martial artist. It's about simple tools everyone can learn and use immediately in real-life situations with both strangers and people you know. In our ESD Global and AWSDA-certified workshops, we teach women, girls, and marginalized populations of every skill level valuable, non-violent de-escalation and avoidance techniques, as well as fundamental defense tactics against physical and sexual assault. We stand in firm support of, and hold safe space for, our human family in the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.

That first word is “personal” and that’s exactly the kind of workout we design and program for you. Whether you are looking to set new PRs, expand your workout library, or have never lifted a dumbbell in your life, our holistic, functional movement-based approach helps you develop strength, stability, endurance, and flexibility so that you can do the things you want to do even better, and be more ready for what the world might throw at you (other than a medicine ball).
